Zach Wahls Scouts for Equality

Scouts for Equality is releasing a series of videos as part of their overall strategy to end the BSA’s ban on gay members and adult leaders.  At their May meeting, the BSA will propose to end the ban on gay youth members, but wish to keep the ban on adult leaders intact.  To the general public, it sounds like a nice compromise, but it actually poses many more issues.

Illinois Marriage Equality
The Illinois House of Representatives is expected to vote this week on Marriage Equality.  If you’d like to help, go to Equality Illinois HERE.
Below are links to four compelling cases for LGBT equality.

  1. Shane Bitney Crone ”It Could Happen To You”
  2. Zach Wahls speech to Iowa House of Reps.
  3. Macklemore and Lewis Same Love
  4. Ryan James Yezak  Second Class Citizens
  5. Australian PSA: It’s Time
  6. Video Short “We’re Not Straight”

By the way, THERE IS a difference between Civil Unions vs. Civil Marriage.  Below is a good explanation from Glad.org

Todricktodrick

American Idol alumn Todrick Hall enlists Janice Dickinson and Lance Bass for this modern day morality retelling of the Cinderella story.  With the title “Cinderfella” and Bass portraying Prince Charming, it shouldn’t be hard to figure out the moral of the story.

Frank Ocean

The emergence of Frank Ocean and his “coming out” statement last week is significant because:

1.  He is a hip hop artist

2.  I featured his music video “Swim Good”  last fall- as often the case, you hear it here first.

3.   This AMAZING performance on the “Jimmy Fallon” Show last night (see below).  He performed “Bad Religion”, the song that refers to his true story of unrequited love.  See the lyrics HERE.

By the way, his new album is streaming on I Tunes, a week early from the July 17 official release (which you can pre-order now from my Amazon store here:)

Last month, Shane Bitney-Crone‘s  ”It Could Happen To You“  short film about the relationship of Shane and Tom Bridegroom, tore my heartstrings apart (watch it again after the jump).  Whether you support marriage equality or have your head in the sand, everyone must see it.  The following graphic lays out the details better than I could.

In the hope that other LGBT couples does not go through the same legal and financial issues, Shane started a Facebook page: Equal Love, Equal Rights.    The short caught the attention of Linda Bloodworth-Thomason, one of the “FIB’s: Friends of Bill Clinton” and the creator of “Designing Women”.  With over 2.7 million youtube views, a lot of publicity ,Thomason’s support, and your help: a documentary can be made. As Bitney-Crone explains in last Wednesday’s (6/27) Huffington Post, this is a love story that is worth sharing.   If they are able to raise $300,000 by July 19 through Kickstarter, it will happen.   Pledge your support HERE.
